Since my unexpected life change, I set out on a journey of growth to find out what it takes to have courage and strength in today’s world.

For the longest time, I’ve done everything in my power to master my outer world.

From dedicating my life to ten years of service in the Marines, completing marathons, road races, powerlifting competitions, and bodybuilding shows, I’ve learned a lot about pushing the body past extreme points of discomfort and mastering myself.

And while all of those experiences have helped me through dark times, something happened when I hit rock bottom.

The pain and darkness I felt did not care about how much I could lift, or how far I could run, it was right there waiting for me until I was ready to sit with my own darkness.

I didn’t want darkness to run my life anymore, so I decided to turn and face the man in the mirror.

Today, I am discovering courage and strength lies within.

I wake up early in the morning to sit with my thoughts rather than hit the iron.

I write in my journal morning and night to connect my heart, body, and soul.

I meditate and pray because I believe in a higher power.

May I have the courage to walk into the unexpected.

May I receive all that is meant for me over the course of my life.

May I welcome new ideas like I am a little by again and look at them, not as challenges, but adventures that can take me wherever I want to go.

In this space, I have found courage and strength to face my darkest fears and let go of everything that needs to be gone.
